Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
FoodHam.com (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you visit our website, why we collect it, and the rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, contact us at hello@foodham.com.
1. Data we collect
Information you give us directly
- Your name and email address when you contact us via our contact form or by email.
- The contents of any message you send us.
Information collected automatically
- Technical data: IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, and pages visited. We collect this through standard server logs and analytics tools to keep the site secure and understand which content is useful.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see section 4 below.
We do not ask for, and you should not send us, sensitive personal data (such as health information) through this website.
2. How we use your data and our lawful bases
Under UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for processing your personal data:
- Responding to enquiries (contact form/email) — lawful basis: legitimate interests (running our editorial correspondence).
- Website analytics — lawful basis: consent (via our cookie banner) or legitimate interests for strictly necessary, anonymised measurement.
- Advertising — lawful basis: consent, where required (see section 5).
- Security and fraud prevention (server logs, spam filtering) — lawful basis: legitimate interests.
3. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data only with:
- Service providers who help us run the site (for example, web hosting and email providers), under contracts that require them to protect your data.
- Advertising partners — Google AdSense and its partners may collect data via cookies as described in section 5.
- Legal authorities — if required by law or to protect our rights and the safety of our users.
4. Cookies
We use the following types of cookies:
- Strictly necessary cookies: required for the site to function (for example, remembering your cookie-banner choice). These do not require consent.
- Preferences: remember settings such as your cookie choices.
- Analytics cookies: help us understand aggregate usage (for example, which recipes are popular). These are only set with your consent.
- Advertising cookies: set by Google and its partners to show relevant ads and measure their performance (see section 5). These are only set with your consent.
You can withdraw consent or change your cookie choices at any time through your browser settings or our cookie banner (where provided). Blocking cookies may affect how parts of the site work.
5. Advertising — Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
- For users in the UK/EEA, we request your consent for personalised ads before advertising cookies are set, in line with Google’s EU User Consent Policy.
For more information, see Google’s Privacy & Terms pages and its “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services” notice.
6. Analytics
We use analytics tools to understand aggregate, anonymised usage of the site — for example, which recipes are popular and whether pages load properly on different devices. Analytics cookies are only set with your consent via our cookie banner. We do not use analytics to identify individual visitors, and we do not combine analytics data with information you provide through our contact form.
7. Marketing
We do not currently send marketing emails or newsletters. If that changes, we will only contact you for marketing with your explicit consent, and every message will include a clear way to unsubscribe.
8. Data retention
- Enquiry emails and form messages: kept for up to 24 months, then deleted, unless needed longer for a legitimate purpose (for example, resolving an ongoing issue).
- Server logs: kept for up to 12 months.
- Analytics data: retained according to our analytics provider’s settings (typically 14–26 months) in aggregated form.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure — ask us to delete your data in certain circumstances.
- Restrict processing — ask us to limit how we use your data.
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests, including for direct marketing.
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@foodham.com with a clear description of your request. To protect your data, we may need to verify your identity before acting — for example, by confirming details only you would know about your enquiry. We will respond within one month; if your request is complex, we may extend this by up to two further months and will tell you if so. There is no fee for exercising your rights unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.
If you are unhappy with our response, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first — please contact us before raising a complaint.
8. International transfers
Some of our service providers (including Google) may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.
9. Children’s privacy
Our content is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at hello@foodham.com and we will delete it promptly.
10. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers offer “Do Not Track” (DNT) or Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. We honour these signals where technically feasible by limiting non-essential tracking. However, because standards for these signals vary, the most reliable way to control tracking on our site is through our cookie banner and your browser’s cookie settings.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top will change, and significant changes will be highlighted on the site. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
